India Updates Safety Marking for Appliance Adapters

Adherent (formerly Compliance & Risks). The Taj Mahal, a white marble mausoleum with a large dome and four minarets, reflected in a long pool, surrounded by green lawns and conical trees under a clear blue sky.

india-taj-mahalThe Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued revision S.O. 709(E) to remove the reference to IEC 60035-1 from the electrical safety certification label for adapters for household and similar electrical appliances. Previously, the safety mark for these products listed both IS 302 (Part 1) and the equivalent IEC Standard, IEC 60035, while the new standard only requires the reference to IS 302 (Part 1). The revision amends S.O. 3415(E), 2017, at page 7, Sl. No. (10) in column (4) of the Schedule, to substitute “IS 302 (Part 1)” for “IS 302 (Part 1) / IEC 60035 – 1.”
