Strengthened Product Safety: Streamlined Enforcement in South Korea

Lotte Tower SeoulOn 29 June 2018, the South Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) has published the new consolidated Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act Enforcement Rules which contains following key changes;

  • Article 2 and 3: Establish ‘household goods subject to safety standards’, and list the products in Annex 6
  • Article 15, 34, 46: When the products are imported with parallel importation, report of safety certification, safety confirmation, and supplier conformity notification shall be exempted.
  • Article 50, 51 and 52: Establish safety management rules for household goods subject to safety standards.
  • Article 56, 57 and 58: Establish special provisions related to execute purchasing, parallel import.
